Economic activity in December
Notimex – According to the agency, this indicator includes preliminary information from different sectors such as agriculture, industry, commerce and services, and shows the trend or direction of the Mexican economy in the short term.
Based on seasonally adjusted basis, indicates that while the primary activities fell 1.66 percent in December from the previous month, secondary activities increased 1.0 percent and 0.49 percent to tertiary.
Stresses that the primary activities (agriculture) fell 0.5 percent annual rate in the last month of 2009, derived from the lower area harvested spring-summer cycle, which meant a drop in the production of crops such as maize grain , avocado and lemon, among others.
By contrast, abundant, secondary activities (mining, electricity, water and gas supply pipeline to the final consumer, construction and manufacturing) grew 1.6 percent due to favorable performance in subsectors of transportation equipment and related services mining, computer and communications equipment.
INEGI said that the tertiary activities showed a contraction of 0.3 percent, mainly due to falling real estate services, professional, scientific and technical, bonding companies, insurance and pensions, services and food and beverage preparation.
During this period, the agency added, increased trade, trucking, hospital services, film and video industry, package delivery, and rail and air transport.
